Frequently asked.
Common questions, plain answers. If yours isn’t here, ask at the next meetup.

01
Is this really only Bitcoin? What about other crypto?
Yes, only Bitcoin. We don't cover other crypto — no altcoins, no stablecoins, no broader digital-asset talk. People bring up altcoins occasionally and the conversation moves on.
-
02
Do I need to own Bitcoin to come?
No. Plenty of people show up with zero Bitcoin and no plans to buy any. They're curious or skeptical, and those are good people to have in the room.
-
03
Do I need to know anything about Bitcoin?
No. Some meetups are designed for newcomers; even at the others, you'll find someone willing to explain. Bring questions.
-
04
Where do meetups happen?
Across the Bay Area — libraries, bars, community rooms. Specific venues are on each event's Meetup page. The Events page has more.
-
05
How often do you meet?
Cadence varies by neighborhood. Check the Meetup page for the full schedule.
-
06
How much does it cost?
Most events are free. A few have a small fee to cover venue or food — when that's the case, the Meetup page will say so.
-
07
How do I RSVP?
Through Meetup — meetup.com/bay-area-bitcoiners. RSVPs aren't always strictly required, but they help us plan venue size.
-
08
I'm coming alone and won't know anyone. Is that weird?
No. A lot of people come alone, especially first-timers. Find an organizer (usually one of the people setting up) and they'll point you in the right direction.
-
09
Are kids welcome?
Depends on the venue. Bars are usually 21+; libraries and community rooms are generally fine. Each event's Meetup page mentions any age restrictions.
-
10
Can I help organize, volunteer, or speak?
Yes. Most of the people running this started by showing up and offering. Talk to an organizer at a meetup — that's usually how it starts.
